Aeronautics

In partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU), FPC is able to offer the Aeronautics Academy to all 10th-12th grade students. Once students enter the academy they required to keep at least a 2.0 GPA to continue in the program. All Aeronautics Academy courses are taught on the FPC campus by an ERAU professor. Coursework is centered around aviation, aerospace, and engineering with a focus on unmanned aircraft. Students have the opportunity to earn free college credits. For the 17/18 school year the following courses are being offered:

-FAA Private Pilot Operations

-Introduction to Human Factors

-Human Factors and System Safety

-Principles of Aeronautical Science

-Intro to Unmanned Aircraft Systems

-UAS Flight Planning and Mapping

-Unmanned Aircraft Systems Security

Many of these courses offer students the opportunity to take industry certifications. This year the academy is offering the FAA Ground School test, the sUAS Safety Certification, and the Visual Line of Sight System Operator certification. All of these exams are offered free of charge to our Aeronautics Academy students who complete program requirements and are ready for the exam.

There are also many perks for students in the Aeronautics Academy. Last year students had the opportunity to attend the Sun & Fun Airshow in Tampa and visit ERAU. Many students in the academy participate in the FPC after school drone club and this year we have students who have entered the Astronaut Challenge competition. In addition to all of this students in the academy are eligible to apply for ERAU scholarships that will help them complete their degree.

Enrollment for this academy begins in the spring of each year. Interested students just need to choose the academy courses on their course selection sheet. For more information, please see your guidance counselor.
